Second helping of crow for the news media, please ...

During this Thanksgiving season, we all will sit down to a good helping of turkey. The news media has started early by helping themself to a large serving of crow.

I notice that whenenver a movie comes out with a young popular African-American cast, the media is quick to report any little inncident that happens in the proximity of the screening of the film. If there is a shooting, fight, or riot, the media will make sure that it is breaking news. This usually happens within the first two weeks of the film's opening. This is the crucial time for any film because this is where the studio gages if the film is going to be a success or a bomb. If the movie is a bomb, the studios can go to the argument that African-American films do not sell and less are made. It is pure business. Usually the fear of being shot or hurt while seeing these types of films keep people away. Once the seed is planted, the sterotype is perpetuated and it becomes a thought in the mind of society.

One such case is the new 50 Cent movie, "Get Rich or Die Trying".

Based on an article from E! Online, Novemeber 11, 2005, a man was shot at "Fiddy Flick". According to the article, obviously written by someone without any deductive skills, reported that Shelton Flowers was shot while going to the multiplex during the film's opening weekend. For one thing, a multiplex means more than one screen. Could there be a chance he was there to see another film, say "Chicken Little"? Second he was shot at the concession stand after a fight in the bathroom. Not in the theatre. Where is the connection with the film? Unless his last words was "tell me how the film ends" or he was still holding a ticket stub for 50 Cent's film, there is no connection. 50 Cent was quoted on "The View" as saying, "I feel for the victim's family in this situation, but you know, these weren't kids. This was a 30-year-old man [who] had a dispute with three other guys." Even 50 Cent knew there was no connection. Based on this information, Lowes pulled the film from the theatre.

Flash forward to November 23, 2005.

Another article came out stating what I knew after the first article. Maybe they should have asked me to investigate this inncident. The fight was due to a "prison beef" and not related to the film. Oops.

The damage was already done. The hysteria was created and the film lost screen time, which translate to lost revenue.

To the news media this Thanksgiving season, enjoy your crow and I hope you choke on it.

Happy Thanksgiving.

From the total ironic category

In the city of Los Angeles, if you have some fame, you can kill your wife and pay a stiff fine (about 30 -33.5 million dollars is the fine).

In the recent case of this, Robert Blake was found not guilty of killing his wife, but liable for her death. The definition of liable is being in a position to incur, in short responsible. Does this not mean that he caused her death or made it happen? Where does the law separate this fact? Either he did it or not. There is no innocent of her death and then found liable for it. This really does not make sense, since I did not take law. I only took English and know the definition of innocent and liable.

Well due to financial hardship, Robert Blake will probably not pay this fine. He is currently in debt to the Internal Revenue Service for the tune of 225,000 dollars. We all know that the IRS gets their cut above any one. In the end, Robert Blake will not have to answer for this crime with either jail time or fine.

As if this could not get any more ironic, O.J. Simpson was quoted “I still don’t get how anyone can be found not guilty of a murder and then be found responsible for it in any way shape or form, … if you’re found not guilty, how can you be found responsible? …” This is the talk of either an idiot or someone who has no clue. In this case it is both. Does he not remember his own case?

There are similarities in both cases. Both men married women who over time felt that these women were a drain on their wallets. Both felt the only alternative was to remove these women from the equation, permanently. I am not saying they did it, but there was enough evidence in both cases to say guilty. These cases could have been solved in an hour episode of Law and Order or a two part Scooby-Doo episode. Due to legal workings (heck Johnnie Cochran had me dazzled with the “if it does not fit, you can’t convict” line), O.J. and Blake were found “innocent” in criminal court, but “liable” in civil court.

O.J., like Blake, has financial hardships and will possibly not pay his “fine” in full. He is currently living on his NFL pension and living in Florida. He is currently "looking" for the murderer or murderers of Nicole and Ron.

Both men might think they have beat the crime. Tupac said “Only God can judge me”. O.J. and Blake are going to face a higher court and fame will not help.

P.S. To the news media, please stop asking O.J. opinions on any court cases. He had no clue while he was there and still has no clue. When you ask his opinions, you make him appear as an authority on the matter and in fact he is only a joke; and not even a good joke.

The infamous Keith memo

Memorandum

To: The World
From: Keith Dwayne Smith
Date: November 16, 2005
Re: Being nice is for straight up suckas …

A great man, Dr. Suess, was quoted:

“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and
those who matter don't mind.”

What does this mean? I am being true to myself, despite what others might say or feel. In this Politically Correct, “touchy-feely-sensitive” society, that is considered being nice and not considering others feelings first. Well what about mine? Is it right to suppress who I am to make someone else feel good about themselves? There are over six billion people on this rock and I do not have the time for it.

In short, I will be who I am and let society kiss off. This does not mean I will be constructing the Death Star and going on a rampage (cost being an issue), but I will say what I feel and do as I please. Those who know me will know that I meant them no harm, but those who want to judge me and not know me, oh well. Let them keep their distance.

In short, those who matter most to me understand and let me be me; those that have a problem with me, I really do not care what they think. They can call me whatever they want, but let this be known, if I catch wind of it, there will be some tears spilled (…and they will not be mine because I do not cry). As I said, it is not being mean, it is just being me.
